OUR STORY

The vision of our school, Destinatus is “Destined for Greatness.” Where did this vision come from and how did we decide it?

It began during a holiday in the Kruger National Park. One morning I awoke with the words: Destined for Greatness. I just lay in my bed and prayed about this idea and God spoke to me about the private Christian school we wanted to start.

As I talked to God, the Lord told me the school should be a place where each child can discover that there is a landing target for his life. God formed him and he is someone significant. He is a vital part of God’s plan for this world and the school must help the child to know who he is in Christ and God’s creation.

Benjamin Zander wrote a book “Opportunity Thinking”. In this book, they asked one of the most famous conductors, in the world, how he managed to motivate people to become brilliant musicians? He replied: When the student sits before me for his first interview I give him an A symbol and I say to him: “I give you an A and want you to discover why you are an A “.

It’s amazing what potential you unlock if you award a person with an A award.

At Destinatus we treat each child as if he already is an “A child”. Our role is to remove the obstacles that might prevent him achieving his goals.

In the past few years we have learned a lot about perseverance, as well as wonderful parents and teachers who want to build this place and who are committed to the school and our learners. We thank the Lord, without whom we would not have a school.

We thank all our parents who spread good news about our school, and we thank every teacher giving her best to ensure quality education.

OUR WALK OF FAITH

2015

Permanent Principal

We open Destinatus with 250 learners, 16 classrooms, 16 teachers, 3 admin ladies, 2 computer rooms, 2 kitchens, 2 halls, 5 aftercare staff members, 2 aftercare venues and a permanent principal. Campus 1 in Angelier Street is newly painted and renovated. We build 2 extra classrooms, a kitchen and a hall at Campus 2 (Bottelary Road).

Rugby Field and Tennis Court

On January the 21st we start preparing a new rugby field at Campus 2 and our tennis court is 90% completed.

All of this was done without any trace of debt and we can only give all the praise and honour to our Heavenly Father, providing for a young, upcoming Centre of Education.

2014

Small setback, but growing too!

We are still building on a growing school, but suffer because of the negativity of some parents who take things out of context, spreading stories such as academically Destinatus is not up to standard. Some parents start rumours on social media and oppose the school and teachers. Teachers suffer at the hand of these negativities, so much so that it even had an effect on the learners. At the end of 2014, 43 children and 5 teachers leave the school, but we still grow with 70 learners.

2013

Expanding: Campus 2

Our school keeps growing and we feel the constant pressure to build new classrooms. The existing building in Angelier Street has no option for expansion and we start looking frantically for a new place to build a bigger Destinatus. By September 2013 God provide a piece of agricultural ground which we can rent – right next to Kuils River Golf Club – and where we can expose the children to nature as well as solid education. In November 2013 we start building 6 new classrooms. Destinatus grows with 80 children at the end of 2013 and we start 2014 with 223 learners.

2012

First steps: Campus 1

Our school gives its first steps with 6 classrooms in an unfinished building. Some parents panic and wonder if our school is going to make it. Others kept on believing in our vision and in our ability to grow. At the end of 2012, 43 children leave the school, but we get 88 new enrolments and we start 2013 with 143 children.

2011

Miracle beginnings

Negotiations with GLC Development start. This is about a possible restoration of the old farmhouse in which I intend to start a church and a school. In May 2011 GLC starts restoring the old building. October 2011 we have three entries for Destinatus Private School. My friends ask: When do you want to open the school? And I say, January 2012. Everybody gets uptight and thinks it is too little time to promote a school. But I keep praying! Father, I put my trust in You and I ask for one hundred children to start with in 2012. I promote, I put up banners, put ads on radio stations and hand out flyers. On 11 January 2012 we open Destinatus with 101 children! I was in awe about this miracle!
